About Tesla Energy

The World's Most Recognised Home Battery

Tesla's energy division has installed over 500,000 Powerwall units globally. The Powerwall 3 is the most advanced iteration yet — combining solar inverter, battery, and backup control into a single unit. It launched in Australia in 2024 and is now our flagship premium battery option.

What sets Powerwall 3 apart is its 11.5 kW continuous backup output — nearly double Powerwall 2 — making it one of the only residential batteries capable of running a full Australian home (including reverse-cycle AC, cooktops, and pool pumps) during a blackout.

Why Powerwall 3 Is Different

Integrated solar inverter

No separate solar inverter needed — connects directly to panels and simplifies the whole system.

11.5 kW backup output

Run your entire home — A/C, cooktops, heavy loads — not just a subset of circuits.

IP67 weatherproof

Can be installed indoors or outdoors in any Australian climate — rated for full submersion.

Unlimited cycle warranty

10-year warranty with no cycle limit — charge and discharge as often as you like.

Tesla Powerwall 3 FAQs

What makes the Powerwall 3 different from older models?
Powerwall 3 is a major upgrade — it includes a built-in solar inverter (no separate inverter needed), 11.5 kW of continuous backup power (versus 5 kW on Powerwall 2), and is capable of running an entire home off-grid. It's the most capable home battery Tesla has made.
Does Powerwall 3 need a separate solar inverter?
No. Powerwall 3 includes an integrated solar inverter, which means it can connect directly to your solar panels — reducing cost and wall space. This also simplifies the system significantly for new installs.
Can I add Powerwall 3 to an existing solar system?
Yes. Powerwall 3 supports AC coupling, so it can be retrofitted to most existing solar setups without replacing your current inverter. For new installations, the integrated DC-coupled design is the preferred configuration.
Will Powerwall 3 power my whole home during a blackout?
Yes — Powerwall 3 delivers 11.5 kW continuous and 185 A peak, which is enough to run a typical Australian home including air conditioning, cooktops, and heavy appliances. Most homes with one Powerwall 3 can operate fully off-grid during an outage.
How many Powerwall 3 units do I need?
Most homes are well-served by one unit (13.5 kWh). If you have high energy usage, solar export goals, or want extended blackout coverage, up to four units can be stacked for 54 kWh total capacity. We'll assess your consumption data and recommend the right configuration.
